Brain Trauma Unit

The Extended Recovery Brain Injury Unit (ERU) at Oak Tree is one of a very limited number of facilities serving brain trauma patients in Central New Jersey. We are a component of the JFK Center for Head Injuries, which is a pioneer in head trauma evaluation and treatment.

The ERU provides each patient with services in a cost effective and socially responsible manner. Our subacute program provides two to three hours of rehabilitation therapy per day, five days a week.

The following services are provided under the oversight of the medical director:

  • Cognitive therapy
  • Coma intervention program
  • Neuropsychological services
  • Patient and family training
  • Counseling services
  • Physiatry
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Social work
  • Therapeutic recreation

Funding for the program is included in most health care/managed care plans, motor vehicle insurance and workers compensation plans. The program is designated as a specialty Traumatic Brain Injury Unit by the Sate of New Jersey Medicaid Program.

JFK Hartwyck is an affiliate of the Solaris Health Care System and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
